Before, Tanjiro sells charcoal to the nearby town to earn money for their family. This connection is also emphasized when Tanjiro’s sword burned brightly due to Nezuko’s Demon Blood Art.
One theory suggests that Tanjiro’s sword turned black as an analogy to charcoal, which ties into Tanjiro’s past job selling charcoal. Another theory (which contains spoilers for the manga) suggests that black blade users are users of the Breath of the Sun style.
Many believe Tanjiro’s sword turns black because he was actually a charcoal seller before becoming a demon slayer and joining the corps. The black color can relate to that occupation so they believe that’s the reason for changes. Human beings are quite limited when it comes to fighting.

Is Tanjiro a demon in Kimetsu no Yaiba?
Tanjiro Kamado is not a demon in Kimetsu No Yaiba, and he does not possess any demon gene of some sort, as there is no such thing. Demons were created from humans by Muzan Kibutsuji’s blood or by getting exposed to a demon’s blood. However, Tanjiro did became a demon at some point in the series. That is what I am going to explain to all Kimetsu No Yaiba fans out there to bust all myths regarding Tanjiro being related to demons.
