Shinobu Kocho (胡蝶しのぶ) was a major supporting character in the 2016-2020 fantasy horror manga series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and its 2019 anime television series adaption. She is the Insect Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps and a supporting character from the Demon Slayer series.

Shinobu Kocho is also the younger sister of Kanae Kocho along with her adoptive younger sister Kanao Tsuyuri. After a demon killed her parents, Shinobu joined the Demon Slayer Corps along with her sister in order to protect others from suffering the same fate as her.

Tl;dr: While Shinobu does tease Giyuu quite a bit, she doesn’t enjoy bullying him – instead she taunts him as a way of letting her frustrations out while carrying on Kanae’s memory/wishes. Whew, that was a lot.

This begs the question “Why does Shinobu hate Giyu?”

Shinobu telling Giyuu that “nobody likes him” is actually her attempt of making him be more open and social to their comrades. Because Giyuu staying silent and frequently distancing himself from the other Pillars is his coping mechanism, and is unhealthy for him as far as Shinobu is concerned.

However, thanks to Shinobu’s body being heavily saturated with poison, Doma is severely weakened and is eventually successfully slain by Kanao and Inosuke. This hatred and disgust becomes even stronger when she actually meets him and comes to understand and see first-hand his twisted personality and ideas about giving his disciples “salvation” by killing and eating them.
