Tanjiro becomes the Demon King when Muzan enters his body during the finale. But after Tamayo’s medicine and Nezuko’s calling, Tanjiro fights against Muzan in a power struggle for his own body. In the end, Tanjiro wins and is reverted back into a human state and Muzan perishes. How did Tanjiro defeat Muzan’s Conscience?
Tanjiro is an extremely humble character. He starts out being a simple boy who lives in the rural parts of Japan with his family. After the massacre and Nezuko’s change, he spends years trying to learn the ways of fighting so that he may join the Demon Corp to figure out a way to save his sister.
How did Tanjiro become a demon?
Tanjiro made the perfect candidate for becoming the next leader of demons, or, the “King of Demons.” Firstly, he shared blood with Nezuko, which would allow him to stand in the sun. Secondly, he practiced Sun Breathing like Yoriichi, which would make him even more powerful. Therefore, Tanjiro as a demon would be the most powerful demon to have ever existed.
Does Tanjiro stay a demon?
Yes and no. He temporarily dies at the end of the final battle, but Muzan brings him back as a demon. Kanao then uses the last of Tamayo’s medicine to turn him back to normal. This results in Tanjiro being able to live as a human, albeit without the use of the arm and eye he lost before his death.

Yeah, you read that right. Tanjiro does turn into a demon! This was something that perhaps no one saw coming, and with Tanjiro being the most powerful demon the chances of him turning back seemed bleak! Thankfully, our characters got the happy ending they deserved (but at what cost?).
Tanjiro was never a demon at the beginning of the series, or any point before the series timeline. Tanjiro is a pure human, much like all demons in the series before they transformed into demons and started eating humans.

Yes, Kanao Tsuyuri People who have only seen the one season of the anime may be unaware that Tanjiro has any kind of love interest. Most shonen anime make it clear from the get-go as to who likes who and which character the protagonist usually has their eyes on.
